Pixie Lott – My Love
I absolutely love this song because a) its sang by a totally hot girl and b) the totally hot girl also has a totally hot voice.
Ok ok.. back on form, this song’s meaning to me, is that she is a relationship with a guy and he is drifting away from her probably in the sense that he doesn’t like her anymore but she is totally in love with this guy who doesn’t love her back anymore in that way and basically she struggling to survive with him. She’s saying everything she can think of to make him stay, like people don’t see it but she can feel there’s something not right and she just wants him.
Oh man this song is just the right type for commercial success! Pianos, Rn’B drums, claps, neo-jazz feeling, wide vocal ranges, the right stuff to make a good song for a chillaxing drive. First thing is vocal, I love how clear she pronounces stuff, and not to mention the crazy power she has in her voice and the way she controls that. The high notes, ohhhh maaannn. Though she does sound a bit Melodyne’d, but all love to play around with a bit of Melodyne! The reverb on her voice sounds very good because it doesn’t sound like she is being drowned in a cave, in my preference I’d use convolution reverb but with it being effected this well its hard to tell, what I can tell is that it was effected after the recording was done rather than being effected on the way in. This song has quite a lot of plosives and the reduction of the has been executed very well to not go past 1kHz so the listener can still recognize the work being pronounced.
Next is he piano, it sounds like a gated normal piano played in high octave minor chords, but then sound fair fake like the Steinway Piano off Logic’s EXS24. Though can be effected to make it sound more natural. Then we have the guitars which is very minimal in this, steel stringed, playing in triplets like the drums which have a very tinny feel so the bass must’ve been rolled off somewhere along the regions of 250Hz and boosted around 1kHz. The drums is a very typical pop/Rn’B feel with a short but rounded kick, very brush-sounding hi-hats and generic claps from a keyboard thats been effected with what sounds like a few millisecond off-position double track and reverb. The bass is also very minimalistic where its a stab bass with a whole second long sustain but almost no delay with very fast attack and low release so it just sounds like a quick ping of a rubber band.
Anyway, I rate this song.
